PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of improving feeling of steering by obtaining steering torque to be applied to a steering member without using a torsion bar having low rigidity. SOLUTION: This steering device is provided with a pinion 21 rotating in accordance with operation of a steering wheel, a rack shaft 10 having a rack 14 meshing with the pinion 21, and a support yoke 4 coming into contact with the rack shaft 10 elastically from a reverse side of a meshing part of the rack 14 and the pinion 21 and is steered by converting the rotation of the pinion 21 into travel in the direction of shaft length of the rack shaft 10 in the meshing part. Since the pinion 21 and the rack 14 are formed into helical teeth, the force applied to the support yoke 4 by acting force in the meshing part is detected, and steering torque applied to the steering wheel is obtained based on the detected force, a steering shaft is constituted by a hollow material or a solid material having high rigidity to improve feeling of steering.
