PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for inspecting online a weld defect of an electric resistance welded steel pipe, capable of detecting accurately even a fine welding defect called as a penetrator generated on a weld of the electric resistance welded steel pipe. SOLUTION: In a sizing process, deformation processing is applied to a steel pipe electro-resistance-welded having a circular section in a direction wherein a fine defect in the weld is enlarged by sizing rolls for the deformation processing, and ultrasonic flaw inspection of the weld is performed in this state. In this inspection device, some of the sizing rolls is used as a sizing roll for the deformation processing for deforming the steel pipe having the circular section into a steel pipe having a non-circular section, and an ultrasonic flaw detector is installed on the subsequent side of the sizing roll for the deformation processing.
