The present invention relates to a device for the relative indexing of the splines of a primary shaft of a gearbox and of a central hub of a clutch of an engine for a motor vehicle. According to the invention, the device is characterized in that it comprises a tool (20) with an operating handle (21) removably mounted on the engine casing and of which the opposite end (23) to the operating handle (21) can mesh with the starter ring gear of the engine in order to be able to use the operating handle (21) to turn the starter ring gear and the splined central hub at the same time into an indexing angular position that allows the splined shaft to engage at the same time in the splined hub. The invention finds an application in the automotive field.
