The method of the invention relies on actively generating compensating oscillations in a driveline of a system to actively damp undesirable oscillations existing in the system.

A method for damping torsional oscillations in a driveline between a turbine and a generator or motor, the method comprising determining the presence of oscillations in the driveline and generating control signals to provide perturbations in the output demand from the generator or motor following a change in output from the generator or motor or a change in speed of the turbine, the perturbations creating tailored oscillations to counteract the oscillations present in the driveline.
