PURPOSE: To provide a secondary battery using lithium which has a large battery capacity, a high charge/discharge efficiency, high energy density, and a long cyclic lifetime by forming a negative or a positive electrode from an active material of a hollow structure with porosity. CONSTITUTION: A secondary battery using lithium comprises a negative electrode, positive electrode, separator, and electrolyte, wherein at least either of the negative and positive electrodes is made of an active material constituting substance 100 having many pores and a hollow part 102. This allows enlargement of the contacting area with the electrolyte and facilitates movement of lithium ions in association with electrochemical reactions. Also it is practicable to suppress distortion caused by volume expansion of the active material when lithium is inserted. As a result, the electrochemical reaction due to charge and discharge propagates efficiently, and it is possible to feed a large current, increase the battery capacity, and suppress destruction of electrode resulting from repeated changing and discharging. |
