The device has a label strip (14) delivery device, a writing unit, a separating device, an embossing device, an output unit, a transport unit and a control unit with a miniaturized keyboard (5), an LCD display (4), a data memory (6) and an interface for transferring labelling data from a PC or keyboard. The device is a portable, non-static tool for which can be operated when connected to a mains power network and without a direct data connection to a computer. The identification text can be reedited or altered at the device.
