Ribbed-tube heat exchange system for charging air cooling

The heat exchange system has several layers of parallel channels for coolant, and corrugated ribs formed between the layers. Shutoff strips (8) with supporting ribs (11) are formed at each end of the rib layers. The side face of the shutoff strips adjoining the coolant channels forms the outside surface (15a) of lips (15), which project towards the corrugated ribs. The lip tips (14) stop short of the ribs. The cross-section of the lip tips increases towards the side opposite the corrugated ribs. A groove (12) is formed between the lips and the supporting ribs, with the groove wall (13) towards the lip being paraboloid in shape. Each of the shutoff strips has its own supporting rib arranged in the centre. The ribs are rectangular in section and of a width (b) equal to one third of the shutoff strip width (B).
