PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new thermogenesis-related gene which is derived from Symplcarpus foetidus, whose cDNA has a specific base sequence, which can be used in the field of plant-breeding such as development of a low temperature- resistant plant, and in the field of medicine such as the treatment of diabetes and obesity, for developing a thermogenic material, and so on. SOLUTION: This is new thermogenesis-related gene SfVCPa which is derived from Symplocarpus foetidues, whose cDNA has the base sequence shown by the formula, which is useful in the field of plant-breeding such as development of a low temperature-resistant plant, in the field of medicine such as the treatment of diabetes and obesity, and in the field of engineering such as the development of a new thermogenic material derived from a plant, and so on. This thermogenesis-related gene is obtained by preparing a genome library from genomic DNA of S. foetidus by a well-known method, followed by screening the obtained library by the colony-or plaque-hybridization using a partial sequence of cDNA of gene SfVCPa as a probe.
