PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal backing frame easy to construct and applicable to various existing walls. SOLUTION: The metal backing frame 1 is for fixing an external facing material arranged on a surface of a building. The backing frame 1 is structured by fixing a metal furring strip 3 to the existing wall 2 of the building. The strip 3 comprises a flat plate-like back board 31, a pair of erected boards 32 erected forward from the across-the-width ends of the back board 31, and a pair of front boards 33 bent from the front ends of the erected boards 32 in directions facing to each other. It is preferable that a front face opening part 34 having a constant width is vertically and continuously formed between the front ends of the front boards 33.
