An oil spill prevention apparatus for use with for a domestic oil storage ta nk has a catchment tray e located underneath an oil storage tank and extending over t he entire footprint thereof. The catchment tray has a depression for pooling oil caugh t by the catchment tray. A level sensor for raises an alarm when the oil level in sai d depression exceeds a threshold value.
