PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus that can detect a failure of a recording head with an inexpensive configuration, and to provide a failure detection method for the recording head.SOLUTION: In a recording apparatus that supplies power for driving a recording head using a DC-DC converter that can perform chopping operation, a target voltage for a head voltage used for performing a recording operation by driving the recording head is set. As a target voltage during a non-recording period in which the head voltage reaches the set target voltage and a recording operation by the recording head is not performed, a voltage lower than the set target voltage is set. When the head voltage becomes lower than the set lower target voltage, a failure of the recording head is detected according to a signal indicating a chopping operation from a power source circuit, generated by execution of a chopping operation by the DC-DC converter.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
