An apparatus and method for automatic sorting of a postal parcel comprises a parcel sorting machine(10) assorting a postal parcel; a bar code scanner OHS(Overhead Scanner)(20) scanning a bar code of a postal parcel; a relay(30) transmitting the bar code value of parcel to a size information link server; a parcel sorting machine control computer CSC(Crisplant System Controller)(40) controlling the operation of a parcel sorting machine; an automatic mail processing system statistics management computer MDACs(Management Data Acquisition Computer)(50) transmitting sorting statistics information to the size information link server; a size information link server(60) transmitting postal code finally sorted to the CSC; a size detecting sensor(70) detecting the size of parcel by the control of the size information link server; a PLC(Programmable Logic Controller)(80) processing the signal between the size detection sensor and the size information link server; and an encoding display part(90) transmitting set-up operation state and sorting plan to the size information link server.
