<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost periodical N×N optical multiplex demultiplex device which is applicable in a full mesh WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) transmission system even when discontinuity exists in a wavelength channel array. <P>SOLUTION: The optical multiplex demultiplex device is equipped with a plurality of optical demultiplexing means which demultiplexes a WDM optical signal into respective wavelength groups and outputs them from a plurality of output terminals, an array waveguide diffraction grating type multiplex-demultiplex circuit which has a plurality of input terminals and a plurality of output terminals wherein the plurality of input terminals are connected to specified terminals out of the respective output terminals of the plurality of optical demultiplexing means and a plurality of optical multiplexing means which has two input terminals and an output terminal to be connected to each of output ports wherein each of the two input terminals is connected to two specified output terminals out of the plurality of output terminals of the array waveguide diffraction grating type multiplex-demultiplex circuit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
