A system for performing substrateless and/or local donor Laser Induced Forward Transfer (LIFT), comprising a reservoir (9) comprising at least one opening; and an energy source configured to deliver energy to a donor material within said reservoir. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the energy source is a pulsed laser. This system enables deposition of material by LIFT without any need for a donor substrate. Methods of substrateless and local donor LIFT are also disclosed. |

1. A method of transferring a donor material to an acceptor substrate, wherein said method comprises:
introducing a quantity of said donor material into a reservoir comprising at least one opening; placing said acceptor substrate opposite to said opening; providing an energy source disposed to provide energy to said donor material; applying at least one pulse of energy from said energy source to said donor material, thereby providing local heating to said donor material sufficient to create a bubble within said donor material and thereby forcing a portion of said donor material out of said reservoir via said opening onto said acceptor substrate; and, refreshing said donor material. |
