PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a composite system comprising at least one ring spinning machine and at least one winding machine; and to provide the composite system.SOLUTION: The present invention is a method for operating a composite system 60 comprising: at least one ring spinning machine 30 provided with a number of spinning units 50 in which cops 9 are manufactured; and at least one winding machine 1 provided with a number of winding units 2 in which the cops 9 are rewound to cross-wound packages 11. In the method, the present invention relates to a method for detecting a value indicating the amount of supply of the ring spinning machine 30 and yarn breakage in the spinning units 50 of the ring spinning machine 30. A total length of a yarn wound into each of the cops 9 is determined from the detected value indicating the amount of supply and the detected yarn breakage, and the supply of the cops 9 to the winding units 2 of the winding machine 1 is carried out in relation to the total length of the yarn wound into each of the cops 9.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
