The hydroxyapatite-hydrotalcite composites present different morphologies and structures depending on the synthesis processes. The crystallizations of the composites were performed in the presence of microwave radiation. The interaction and structures of the composites depend on the order of incorporation of the hydrotalcite and the hydroxyapatite. A hydrotalcite composite with hydroxyapatite interlayers is obtained by synthesising hydroxyapatite over hydrotalcite. A hydrotalcite composite with hydroxyapatite interlayers is obtained by synthesising hydrotalcite over hydroxyapatite, while a composite with an homogeneous distribution of delaminated hydrotalcite and hydroxyapatite is formed when the synthesis is simultaneously performed. Said composite materials may be used mainly as catalysts, adsorbents and ion exchangers. Particularly, the use of said composites in medicine would be as a drug vehicle and dispenser.
