Multi=component injection moulding process and nozzle

Equipment for injection moulding a component in two or more materials (A,B) includes an injection nozzle(2) with first(4) and second(6) inlets for each material and an outlet(10) into a mould cavity. The nozzle(2) has a first insert (30) with a first position which closes the first inlet (4) and a second position in which the inlet (4) connects with the outlet(10). A channel(32) in the first insert(30) leads to the outlet and is opened and closed by a second insert(34) moving relative to the first insert. In the first position of the first insert(30) the second inlet(6) connects with the channel(32) and in the second position is closed off. In a two material moulding process using the claimed equipment: (a) the first insert (30) retracts to its second position while the second insert (34) remains in its first position; (b) the first material (A) is fed through the first inlet (4) into the nozzle (2) and mould cavity; (c) the first insert returns to its first position; (d) the second insert retracts to its second position; (e) the second material (B) is fed through the second inlet (6) into the nozzle (2) and tool cavity; (f) the second insert is returned to its first position.
