PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reaction coupled ceramic material having useful high mechanical characteristics and high fracture strength in which high density can be easily obtd., by heat treating a fine dispersion mixture of an aluminum- contg. material, a silicon-contg. material and a rare earth metal-contg. material in an oxygen-contg. atmosphere. SOLUTION: The aluminum-contg. material is selected from hydroxides, sulfates, nitrates, nitrides and/or oxides of aluminum. The silicon-contg. material is selected from silicon metal, silicon carbide, silicon oxide, silicon nitride and zirconium silicate, and preferably silicon metal. The rare earth metal element is selected from yttrium and/or cerium, and is compounded by 0.1 to 10 wt.%. The heat treatment is carried out a 1200 to 1500 deg.C. Moreover, a reinforcing fiber (such as a mullite-base oxide fiber) and/or functional components may be included by 5 to 50 vol.%. This means the amt. of mullite is 50 to 99.9 wt.%. |
