<p>A fuel gas generator adapted to produce separate supplies of oxygen and hydrogen for use as fuel in a vehicle engine. In one example, the cell comprises an electrolytic bath 10 with spaced electrodes 12 and 13 therein and power supply connections 19 and 20 thereto. The electrodes are mounted on vertical shafts 15 driven by motors 18 so that they may be spun to release gas bubbles from the electrode surfaces. The gases are collected separately from a pair of hoods 22 above the electrolyte surface. Such a device may be compactly contained singly or in multiple units within a gas-driven vehicle thus avoiding the need for an on-board gas storage tank. The generator will provide sufficient gas to start the engine prior to regeneration of fresh gases by the cell. In a further embodiment the fuel gas generator is characterised by each electrode being in the form of a plurality of generally horizontal plates 30 mounted in superimposed relationship on is driven upright shaft, there being peripheral upstanding protuberances or flanges 32 on each plate for partial retention of gases bubbles produced thereon.</p> |
