The present invention relates to a dental glass ionomer cement composition comprising: a polycarboxylic acid; water; and a glass powder including a metal component capable of ionically bonding with a carboxyl group of the polycarboxylic acid in the presence of water, wherein at least a part of the surface of the glass powder is coated with a polymer material. A dental glass ionomer obtained by the present invention can guarantee sufficient operation time in comparison with a dental ionomer according to a conventional technique, and also has an advantage of improving initial strength.
