Aromatic carboxylic acids in combination with aromatic hydroxyamides for inactivating non-enveloped viruses

The present invention is directed to antiviral compositions that provide efficacy against non-envelope viruses such as noroviruses. The antiviral compositions comprise an alcohol and a synergistic combination of an aromatic carboxylic acid and an aromatic hydroxyamide. The composition may be used as a topical on human skin, as a hand sanitizer or as a hard surface cleaning composition.

1. An antiviral composition having activity against non-enveloped viruses comprising:
salicylic acid in an amount between about 1 weight percent and about 2 weight percent of the composition; salicylamide in an amount of about 2 weight percent of the composition;
a C1-C6 linear and/or branched alcohol; andwater;wherein said antiviral composition has activity against non-enveloped viruses.
