PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of continuing an image forming process even if a part of light sources is damaged.SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, an image forming apparatus comprises: a plurality of light sources; a scanning unit; a detection sensor; a laser control unit; and a switching unit. The light sources each generate a laser beam for forming an electrostatic latent image on an image carrier. The scanning unit scans the laser beam in a main scan direction. The detection sensor detects the laser beam from a reference light source which is one of the light sources generating the laser beams scanned by the scanning unit. If the detection sensor has been able to detect the laser beam from the reference light source, the laser control unit controls the respective light sources of the laser beams scanned by the scanning unit according to image data with the laser beam detected by the detection sensor defined as a reference signal. If the detection sensor cannot detect the laser beam from the reference light source, the switching unit switches the light source to another light source to define another light source as the reference light source.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 |
