The apparatus (1) has a gas compression assembly (2) including an electrical motor for driving a vaned-rotor, where the motor is contained in a case (4). An electronic unit is formed of power semiconductors and electronic boards, and is housed in a box (8). The vaned-rotor is guided or supported by a radial air bearing assembly and an axial air stop system. The box is placed immediately near the motor such that heat exchanges are carried out between the box and the motor case. An air inlet mouth is placed in a cooling air inlet box that is located between the box (8) and the motor.
