PURPOSE: To automatically dispose of the generated ears using a cutter which produces a plurality of narrow webs of desired width through the cutting of a traveling wide web. CONSTITUTION: An ear 9 to be cut is cut crosswise by an ear cutting unit 10 movable in the cross direction of a traveling wide web 2. The ear 9 cut is separated from the web 2 and conveyed by an ear conveyor unit 20 movable in the cross direction of the wide web 2. The ear cutting unit 10 and the ear conveyor unit 20 are positioned to suit the position of the cut ear 9 which varies depending on the width of the wide web 2 and the width and number of narrow webs 8 into which the web 2 is cut.
