The method involves transmitting data packets between a transmitter and a receiver, whereby at least some of the data packets to be transmitted are encoded with different codes to form different coding units. The different coding units of at least some data packets are transmitted by the transmitter for receiver side reconstruction and the receiver requests a certain coding unit for a certain data packet using suitable explicit signaling. Independent claims are also included for the following: a radio communications system for transmitting encoded data packets.
