Production of a rigid light guide or fibre rod, according to which a rigid fibre rod is produced out of a fibre bundle by combined melting and drawing processes. The fibre bundle (6) is surrounded by a cover consisting of an outer glass tube (4), an inner glass tube (2) and an intermediate dye layer (3). The resulting assembly is brought to melting and is drawn to its final diameter. The claimed light guide consists of a core of optical fibres joined by melting, and an outer layer whose optical absorption is greater than that of the material of individual fibres. The outer layer of the light guide has a greater optical absorption than the dye layer located between the inner and outer glass layers. |
