A method for setting a mask-fit test pressure to be applied to a wearer's mask (12) by a ventilatory assistance apparatus, the method comprises:
determining whether the ventilatory assistance apparatus is operating in a manual mode or an automatic titrating mode; and
setting the test pressure to be applied to the mask based on the mode determination.
