Provided is an image forming apparatus that may control turning on/off of a light emitting device according to a state of a sheet on a manual sheet tray. The image forming apparatus includes a manual supply tray on which a sheet is arranged. The image forming apparatus may be configured such that a mode thereof is switched between a normal power mode and a power saving mode. In the normal power mode, normal electric power is supplied. In the power saving mode, a smaller amount of electric power as compared with the electric power consumed in the normal power mode is consumed. The image forming apparatus includes a manual feeding sensor that detects existence of a sheet on a manual supply tray. The image forming apparatus includes a sheet length sensor (S) and a sheet length sensor (L) including a light emitting element and a light receiving element, which detects an approximate length of a sheet in a transport direction of the sheet arranged in the manual supply tray. |
