A generally planar plate or tray 1 for supporting food 9 and drink 10 includes an oblong opening 2 relative to the major axis of a thumb 7 of the user of the plate through which the thumb may extend to grip the top of the plate and by which the bottom of the plate can be gripped by the splayed apart fingers 8 of the hand 6 of the user, to thereby provide a stable surface for supporting food and drink on top of the plate. The opening 2 may be completely surrounded by the plate, or it may be an indentation at the edge of the plate. The plate may have a rim 5 to prevent food or drink from being spilled. A circular aperture (3, fig. 1) may be provided into which a drinks container (e.g. wine glass) may be inserted. The circular aperture may be near the edge of the plate, and may include a slot (4, fig. 1) through which a stem of a wine glass may pass. |
