PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive position detector capable of more certainly reducing deterioration of position detection accuracy due to displacement in another axis direction, other than a detection axis direction.SOLUTION: A position detector 10 includes: permanent magnets 1, 2 attached on an object whose position is to be detected, and arranged such that magnetization directions of the permanent magnets 1, 2 are made parallel to a detection axis direction; and a magnetic detection element 3 detecting a magnetic flux density generated by the permanent magnets 1, 2. The position detector 10 detects a position of the object on the basis of a detection value of the magnetic detection element 3. The position detector 10 is provided with magnetic flux density reduction parts Q, R on a central portion on a reference surface A in a direction orthogonal to the magnetization direction X, the reference surface A being one of outer surfaces of the permanent magnets 1, 2 and facing the magnetic detection element 3. |
