PURPOSE: To obtain a polyolefin by polymerizing anα-olefin in the presence of a prescribed solid catalytic component, a titanium compound, etc., having excellent high transparency and image clarity, useful as a molding, etc. CONSTITUTION: A cycloolefin is polymerized in the presence of a solid component obtained by supporting a metallocene compound of the formula [Me is Ti, Zr or Hf; A is a cycloalkanedienyl skeleton-containing mononucleus or polynucleus hydrocarbon; R1 is a 1-4C alkylene, a di-(1-6C alkyl or aryl)silylene, etc.; R2 and R3 are each a halogen, a 1-6C alkyl or an aryl] on a carrier containing Mg and a halogen atom to form a solid catalytic component containing a highly crystalline cycloolefin polymer. Anα-olefin is polymerized in the presence of the solid catalytic component, a titanium compound such as titanium tetrachloride and an organoaluminum compound such as triethylaluminum to give the objective polyolefin.
