The handbrake is mounted in a slide plate that can travel in two opposite directions. A first brake cable connected to the brake unit for one wheel and to the slide plate extends in the movement direction of the plate. A second brake cable is attached to the brake unit for another wheel and to the slide plate, but extends in the opposite direction to the first cable. An electric motor (12) mounted on the plate is used to drive a device pulling the first cable. When the first cable is pulled, the plate follows in the same direction, so that force exerted by this cable leads to a reaction force in the second cable and an equal braking force is distributed over each braking unit in the wheel pair. A device is used to control the motor between an unstressed starting position and different stressed positions (and vice versa) for uncoupling the brake or reducing braking force. |
