PURPOSE: A telephone number searching method and system of a telephone terminal are provided to search a telephone number of a desired party desired by a user from the list including a plurality telephone numbers by key manipulation at the minimum. CONSTITUTION: A phone number list is stored in a memory unit(S1). When a user depresses key of a keypad to input a key data(S2), a key data stream inputted form the keypad is temporarily stored successively in order in a buffer(S3). If the key data stored in the buffer is more than an arbitrary number, a control processor generates character combinations from every inputtable character and compares them with character combinations recorded in the memory unit to search for a telephone list containing the same character combination with the generated character combination(S6). If more than one data are searched(S7), the control processor displays all the searched data in order(S11). The user depresses a cursor moving direction key to move a selection list(S12). The searched data movement is displayed according to a movement direction(S13). The user selects a desired telephone number list and requests dialing by depressing a send key(S14), thereby making a phone call to a desired party(S15).
