PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for controlling the surface of a draw roller, which are capable of cutting the cost of ceramic coating of the draw roller by continuously using the draw roller intact without being subjected to ceramic coating again while a high-quality yarn can be produced rather than automatically making the ceramic coating again at a point when a predetermined period elapsed. SOLUTION: The apparatus for controlling the surface of the draw roller has the draw roller bearing a densified film consisting of a specific chromium porous film and amorphous chromium oxide microparticles filled in pores formed in a porous film and covering the surface of the porous film and having a surface-polished boundary formed midway of the densified film, a draw device for hot-drawing thermoplastic synthetic multifilament yarn using the draw roller, a fluff detector for detecting fluffs occurring at the draw device, and a fluff monitor for monitoring fluff occurrence frequency.
