The present invention aims at providing a method and device for downloading a multimedia file. The present invention transmits to a multimedia file provider a file download request for a multimedia file, where the file download request emulates a file playback request and is used for acquiring integrated playback information of the multimedia file from the provider, and, the present invention receives from the provider and saves the integrated playback information of the multimedia file. The present invention not only acquires the multimedia file but also acquires the integrated playback information of the multimedia file, comprising at least the multimedia file and relevant information of a playback page to which the multimedia file belongs. Under the premise that user demand for downloading the multimedia file is satisfied, the present invention takes into account rights and interests of the copyright holder and the provider of the multimedia file, and further allows sustainable development of overall multimedia industry environment; this in turn allows users to continue to enjoy more multimedia content services.
