PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickness detecting device which determines a point of time when the clearance between a pair of rollers is detected on the basis of a temperature in the vicinity of the pair of rollers, detects the clearance on the basis of the determined point of time, and calculates the thickness of a record medium on the basis of the detected clearance.SOLUTION: A thickness detecting device includes: transport means for transporting a record medium held in a clearance gap between a first roller and a second roller by driving the first roller and/or the second roller in rotation; detection means including a temperature detecting part for detecting the temperature of the transport means and a displacement detecting part for detecting the clearance of the clearance gap; determination means for determining the point of time for starting the detection of the displacement detecting part on the basis of the temperature detected by the temperature detecting part; and calculating means for calculating the thickness of the record medium on the basis of the clearance detected by the displacement detecting part. |
