A temperature varying device for varying the temperature of plastic preforms, wherein said temperature varying device has at least one temperature varying unit arranged on a carrier which is rotatable about a predefined axis of rotation, and said temperature varying unit has at least two contacting devices which are suitable and intended for contacting an outer wall of the plastic preforms and between which at least one section of the plastic preforms can be received, and having a drive device for moving the at least two contacting devices in a predefined movement direction, wherein the apparatus has a detection device for detecting at least intermittently a position of at least one of the at least two contacting devices in the predefined movement direction.
