<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an audio playback device capable of quickly playing back compression-encoded audio data, after a playback-start instruction. <P>SOLUTION: Prior to the playback start instruction, decoded audio data, corresponding to a header (frame number 1 to N) of compressed audio data can be stored in an audio cache memory 4a by cache processing (S7). When the key of a keyboard 6 is depressed, the audio data stored in the audio cache memory 4a are output, and decoding is started from the frame N by playback processing (S11). Accordingly, since intermediate data obtained in the decoding process of the frame number N can be produced, the frame number (N+1) and subsequent frames can be correctly decoded. Accordingly, the audio data corresponding to the frame number (N+1) and subsequent frames can be played backed continuously from the frame number N, which are stored in the audio cache memory 4a.
