PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease media noises by forming an alloy film containing each specified at.% of Cr, Ti, Mo as a nonmagnetic base film to specified thickness (Å) on a nonmagnetic substrate and forming a magnetic alloy film which essentially consists of Co and contains each specified at.% of Cr, Pt, Ta on the alloy film. SOLUTION: After a Ni-P plated Al substrate is subjected to texturing, the substrate is set in a DC magnetron sputtering device, which is evacuated and heated to 240 deg.C. In this state, a nonmagnetic base film comprising a Cr-Ti-Mo alloy is formed to 1 to 300Åthickness. The alloy consists of 2 to 25 at.% Ti, 1 to 15 at.% Mo and the balance substantially Cr. Successively, an alloy film expressed by the compsn. formula of Co100- X- Y- ZCrXPtYTaZ, satisfying 13<=X<=20, 1<=Y<=8 and 2<=Z<=7 (at.%) is formed as a magnetic film on the base film. Further, a carbon film is formed as a protective film and a lubricant is applied thereon. Thus, the obtd. medium has high coercive force in which generation of noise can be suppressed even for a high recording density.
