METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR COMPRESSING AND DECODING MESH DATA WITH RANDOM ACCESSIBILITY IN 3-DIMENSIONAL MESH MODEL

A method and a system for compressing and restoring mesh data capable of random access in a 3D mesh model are provided to improve accessibility to the 3D mesh model by schematically showing the 3D mesh model by using a wire mesh. A random access mesh data compression system(100) comprises a mesh data acquisition unit(110), a wire mesh generation part(120), a data construct generating unit(130), and an encoding unit(140). The mesh data acquisition part obtains mesh data from a 3D mesh model. By using the mesh data, the wire mesh generation part produces a wire mesh consisting of a plurality of wire cells. The data construct generating unit produces wire mesh information for the wire mesh and wire cell data including mesh data about each wire cell. The encoding unit compresses the generated wire mesh information and the wire cell data.
