VARIABLE SPARE CIRCUIT GROUP SIZE AND QUANTITY HAVING MULTIPLE ACTIVE CIRCUITS

A plurality of daisy-chained switching circuit cards (117) are each coupled to a different active circuit card (1104-1107). Feed-through circuit cards are each coupled to spare circuit cards (1103) having substantially identical circuitry to the active circuit cards (1104-1107). The feed-through circuit cards are also daisy-chained with the switches on the switching circuit cards. The switching circuit cards (1015) can replace the feed-through circuit cards and the active circuit cards (1104-1107) replace the spare circuit cards (1103) in order to vary the size of the spare groups to a group of spare circuit cards (1103) and active circuit cards (1104-1107) and also quantity of the spare groups (1101).
