The invention concerns a method which consists in: calling (7) a central management station (2) via a GSM mobile telephone; indicating (9) to the central management station (2) the geographical position of the caller-client and his identity by coupling the individual identification unit (4) to the mobile telephone (3), the geographical co-ordinates being supplied by a GPS receiver (18) integrated in the locating unit; identifying (10) in the central management station (2) the free taxi nearest to the geographical location indicated by the locating unit (4); transmitting (11) to the selected taxi the caller-client location; and transmitting (12) to the caller-client the identification of the identified free taxi. The invention is applicable to public transport, rescue organisations for people in distress.
