PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve system with a holder rocking drive mechanism having compact construction with reduced driving force while increasing the degree of freedom in arrangement of a transmission mechanism and the control range of valve operating characteristics. SOLUTION: The valve system comprises a first rocker arm 50 for rocking around a first rocking center line L4 with an intake cam 21, a second rocker arm 60 for rocking around a second rocking center line L5 while transmitting valve driving force F1 to an intake valve 14, and a holder 30 for rockingly supporting the first and second rocker arms 50, 60 so that the first and second rocking center lines L4, L5 rock together. As the holder 30 comes closer to a rock position where the valve operating characteristics is obtained with the maximum lift amount, an abutment position P1 between a cam mountain portion 21b and a roller 53 of a first rocker arm 50 comes closer to a specified line L10 passing through a holder rocking center line L3 and a rotational center line L2 of the intake cam 21.
