The method involves arranging an automatic clutch (31) between a main engine (11) and a gear (15). A drive wheel stands in drive connection with a gear output shaft (18). A target slippage at drive wheels (21) is adjusted by changing transferable torque of the clutch in a starting mode deviated from a normal mode. The target slippage on a relative slippage valve is determined, where a friction coefficient in the slippage valve and between drive wheels and a road surface lies in a region of maximum valve.
