<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive thin electro-optical device excellent in light use efficiency, and provide an electro-optical device manufacturing method, a projector, and an electronic device thereof. <P>SOLUTION: Since filler 212 is provided in the grooves 63 constituting the prism elements 211, this filler 212 holds the light shading sections 203a when the shading sections 203a are arranged on the surface of the counter substrate 200 provide with the prism elements 211. Since the filler 212 holds the shading sections 203a, it is not required to stick a cover glass on the surface of the counter substrate 200.
