DISCHARGE LAMP LIGHTING DEVICE, AND LUMINAIRE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of stably starting and lighting a discharge lamp even when load impedance varies; and a luminaire.

SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device includes: a power conversion circuit 9 converting D.C. power to A.C. power to be supplied to a load circuit 29 including the discharge lamp; a drive circuit 11 driving a switching element of the power conversion circuit 9; a start circuit 13 sweeping a drive frequency of the drive circuit 11 to increase the output of the power conversion circuit 9 in startup; a lighting detection circuit 14 detecting whether the discharge lamp is being lit or not by detecting the output of the power conversion circuit 9; and a current control circuit 17 detecting the output power of the power conversion circuit 9 from a current flowing through a resonance circuit after the lighting detection circuit 14 detects the lighting of the discharge lamp, and controlling the drive frequency of the drive circuit 11 to set the output power at a target value. The current control circuit 17 starts control of the drive frequency immediately after the lighting detection circuit 14 detects the lighting of the discharge lamp.
