A liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal display panel having liquid crystal sandwiched between a first substrate and a second substrate, and a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix, wherein the liquid crystal display panel includes: a plurality of detection electrodes of a touch panel arranged on the second substrate; pixel electrodes arranged in the respective pixels; counter electrodes arranged in the respective pixels and divided into M blocks when M is an integral number of 2 or more (M>2); a driver circuit that applies a counter voltage and a touch panel scanning voltage to the counter electrodes of each of the M divided blocks; and a detector circuit that detects whether a touch is present, or not, on the basis of a current flowing in the plurality of detection electrodes, wherein the counter electrodes of each of the M divided blocks are shared with the respective pixels of a plurality of continuous display lines, and are also used as scanning electrodes of the touch panel, wherein the driver circuit sequentially applies the touch panel scanning voltage to the counter electrodes of each of the M divided blocks, wherein the detector circuit detects: in a touch detection period, whether the touch is present, or not, on the basis of a current flowing in the plurality of detection electrodes when the touch panel scanning voltage is applied to the counter electrodes of each of the M divided blocks; and in a noise detection period, noise on the basis of a current flowing in the plurality of detection electrodes, assuming that an (M+1)th counter electrode is present for the counter electrodes of each of the M divided blocks, and assuming that a touch panel scanning voltage synchronous with the touch panel scanning voltage applied to the counter electrodes of each of the M divided blocks is applied to the (M+1)th counter electrode, and wherein the threshold value for detecting the touch of the touch detection period is different from that for detecting the noise of the noise detection period.
