NONAQUEOUS ELECTROLYTE BATTERY

A nonaqueous electrolyte battery is provided to prevent short circuit of a positive electrode and a negative electrode caused by oxidative degradation or thermal shrinkage of a separator and to secure high safety and high battery capacity. A nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprises a positive electrode(21) and a negative electrode(22) which are faced through a separator(23). The open circuit voltage at the full state-of-charge of a pair of the positive electrode and the negative electrode is in the range of 4.25-6.00 V. The separator comprises a base material layer(23A) which is made of a polyolefin resin material, and a surface layer(23B) containing at least one selected from the group consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride, polytetrafluoroethylene and polypropylene.
