POWER CONTROL FOR COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS UTILIZING HIGH SPEED SHARED CHANNELS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a WTRU and method for providing controlled transmitter power in a wireless communications system in which both dedicated and shared channels (DCH and SCH) are utilized.

SOLUTION: A WTRU transmits a data signal on a DCH and transmits a data signal on an associated SCH in a distributed manner. The WTRU includes: a means for receiving DCH target metrics computed on the basis of the reception of signals transmitted by the WTRU on the DCH; a means for generating SCH target metrics obtained from the received DCH target metrics; and a means, for computing a power adjustment value as a function of target metrics, configured to compute a DCH power adjustment value as a function of the received DCH target metrics, and to compute an SCH power adjustment value as a function of the generated SCH target metrics.
