Class 44 A method of manufacturing a sliding clasp fastener comprising the steps of providing a metal or plastic filament 1 formed into a series of coplanar links, the ends 11, 11 of each link being joined to the preceding and succeeding links respectively; securing the links to at least one support 3; and subsequently bending the links to a U-shape. As described, two supports 3; 3<SP>1</SP> in the form of beadings are stitched to the filament, the links are bent to U- shape and embrace a stringer tape 4 which' is stitched to the beadings, the links are deformed at 12 to provide locking members. A tape may be used in place of a beading as a support, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), a tape and a beading are secured to opposite sides of the links which are then bent to U-shape. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), a tape is secured to the links by a plurality of seams, the links being subsequently bent to U-shape. |
